Career Overview
Emilio Butragueño is widely regarded as one of the finest strikers of his generation — a master of movement, intelligent positioning, and clinical finishing. Standing just 1.68 m tall, he more than compensated with vision and instinct in front of goal, netting 171 goals in 463 appearances for Real Madrid.
La Quinta del Buitre. In the 1980s, Butragueño led a golden generation from Real Madrid’s youth academy — dubbed by the press « La Quinta del Buitre ». Alongside Míchel, Sanchís, Martín Vázquez, and Pardeza, he delivered five consecutive La Liga titles between 1986 and 1990. Discovered and mentored by Alfredo Di Stéfano.
International Highlight. At the 1986 FIFA World Cup, he scored four goals as Spain demolished Denmark 5–1 in the round of 16 — one of the tournament’s most memorable individual performances. He earned 69 caps and scored 26 international goals between 1984 and 1992.

Golden Foot Award - Monaco 2022
Presented annually in Monaco under the patronage of Prince Albert II, the Golden Foot can be won only once in a lifetime — the recipient’s footprint is permanently cast in the Champions Promenade. In 2022, Butragueño received the Legend Award, joining Sebastián Verón and Fatih Terim in a class that recognises players whose impact transcends generations.
